because we don't know, we get to think of life as an inexhaustible well. Yet everything happens a certain number of times, and a very small number, really. How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more. Perhaps not even.

How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless.

dance comes out of time”

Saturday June, 17, 8:00 PM

Sunday June, 18, 3:00 PM

Oguri and Chavez have began collaborating for 30 years. This is a special opportunity to catch them working together one on one.

Dance: For over 30 years Oguri has been teaching, creating, and producing dance and multi-media works incorporating his own large-scale set/sculpture installations in formal theater settings and site-specific venues worldwide. He continues to investigate the relationship of dance to environment and the boundaries between performer and audience. He has developed collaborative projects with musicians, sculptors, painters, and poets, using literature, daily life imagery and simple materials to transform space and time with dance. He actively brings dance to the wider community. Since 2005, Oguri produces “Flower of the Season” a series of workshops and performances, giving national and international emerging and master dance artists opportunities to develop and present work. In 2011 Oguri formed ARCANE Collective with Morleigh Steinberg, for touring full productions and live performance concepts. Oguri has received numerous grants and awards regional, nation and worldwide, 2018 United State Artist Doris Duke Fellow, among others.

Music: Paul Chavez is a composer, instrumentalist and sound designer whose sonic explorations reflect his background in architecture and engineering.  Chavez’s sound designs explore sonic textures and space created through the digital manipulation of found sounds and homemade instruments. Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “deliriously original”, his music and sound designs have been heard at the Los Angeles Music Center, the Guggenheim Museum in New York, the Architecture and Design Museum, the Los Angeles Design Festival, Regen Projects, New York Live Arts, the Grec Festival in Barcelona, REDCAT, and Dublin’s Project Arts Centre. He has created sound scores in collaboration with many artists, including Oguri, Roxanne Steinberg, Architecture Office, Carole Kim, Sarah Elgart, Morleigh Steinberg, and Melinda Ring.
